Question: Multiple interviews:
Question:
I applied online to Kayak for a PM role. I have 5 years of PM experience in insurance tech, focusing on B2B SaaS. I use Kayak often and applied when I saw the opening, despite not having 2C PM experience.
The HR person was very nice, replying to emails promptly, answering all my questions about the process, and sharing interview tips. She said there were many applicants, so the process would be long.
For the take-home assignment, it was a typical case. I was given user data from the website, asked to analyze the results, propose a solution, and list key metrics. I had a week to submit a 5-page PPT and answer what other enhancement ideas I had besides the prompt.
About two weeks later, I met with the Director of PM, who was based in Berlin. We walked through my resume, and he highlighted some points from my assignment that he liked, especially the additional suggestions I made. He said my ideas were good and directly showed them to the hotel stay team PM. I gathered that the company is very sensitive to measurement, risk, and pitfalls, and emphasizing a data-driven approach would be well-received.
Because I had other offer deadlines, I told the HR person, who then booked the group interview. The first interview was a case study with a Senior PM and Senior UX designer. The case was unrelated to the company or OTA. We had 45 minutes to design a system, including a low-fidelity wireframe. Time was tight, and the PM's responses weren't clear, so I had to repeatedly ask questions to clarify the requirements. Next, I spoke with a Design Lead. We mainly talked about how I've worked with UX teams, it was a casual talk. After that, I spoke with the Business team. It was mainly behavioral questions focused on entrepreneurship. It was unexpected, but I knew the interview's intentions, so I talked about my 0-1 experience. Finally, I spoke with the Tech Lead, who asked how I worked with Dev/Research teams. This was also mainly behavioral questions. He asked shallow questions about mobile app development.
The day after the group interview, HR told me they felt there was a more suitable role and wanted to add another interview round. The new role would have a large impact but be far from tech. They asked if I wanted to try it. I reluctantly agreed. Then I spoke with a Senior PM from the same group as the new role. We reviewed my resume again, and I went through my assignment again. It was mainly behavioral questions. I was also asked about measurement and execution. Lastly, I was scheduled to speak with the VP of Product, but after waiting a while, I was told they were sick and had to end the interview.
