I recently interviewed with Microsoft, and it was a challenging experience. The team was Commerce Customer Experience (CCE).
Round 1
An engineer contacted me and scheduled an interview for the next day. The interview involved DSA and basic Java questions. Self Verdict: Pass Actual Verdict: Pass
Round 2
A manager interviewed me, focusing on more advanced DSA and system design questions. Self Verdict: Pass Actual Verdict: Pass
Round 3
Another manager conducted an interview with similar DSA and system design questions. Self Verdict: Pass Actual Verdict: Pass
Before round 4, the position was temporarily put on hold due to internal restructuring.
Round 4
An engineer from WA conducted this interview, focusing on DSA and questions about my experience and skills. Self Verdict: Pass Actual Verdict: Pass
Round 5
I received an email from another manager who explained the role, asked DSA questions, and posed scenario-based questions. He indicated there might be one more interview. Self Verdict: Pass Actual Verdict: Pass
After this round, communication was slow. I had to proactively follow up multiple times. I eventually received my next interview after a month's delay due to the position being put on hold.
Round 6
A senior manager interviewed me, focusing on my experience, interests, and a puzzle. He indicated another colleague would also interview me. Self Verdict: Pass Actual Verdict: Pass
Round 7
This interview involved an in-depth discussion about role expectations and system design. Self Verdict: Pass Actual Verdict: Pass
After this round, I received a referral for the role and was asked to complete a form. This was the first time I had contact with HR. My third-round interviewer confirmed positive feedback and indicated that the team owner would contact me.
On June 10, I received an email from Microsoft HR requesting documents, which I submitted by June 12.
Round 8
An HR conducted a final interview focusing on DSA, system design, and scenario-based questions. Self Verdict: Pass Actual Verdict: Pass
On June 14, HR informed me that I had cleared all interview rounds and would receive an update on Monday. On June 17, HR offered me an L60 (SDE 1) position at a compensation level I found too low, given my experience and the extensive interview process. Despite my attempts to negotiate, the offer was not increased, and the offer was ultimately rescinded.
