Interview at Microsoft
I recently received and accepted a job offer from Microsoft. However, I've noticed some aspects that are concerning. I was offered a lower level than expected, while a female colleague with similar performance received the level she interviewed for.
Observations:
The interview process seems to depend heavily on individual interviewers and the specific round. A single unsuccessful round can result in a lower-level offer, although exceptions exist. The final round (presumably with the hiring manager) is crucial. It appears that diversity candidates or those with strong resumes may have an advantage.
Salary increases and promotions are reportedly slow at Microsoft, but layoffs appear to be infrequent.
The interview process is less structured than at other companies. The types of questions asked can vary significantly between interviewers. Some candidates may not receive system design questions, even when expected, and instead receive data structure and algorithms questions.
While receiving an interview invitation from Microsoft can be challenging, the interview process itself is considered relatively easy by some.
The work environment is described as positive, with less work pressure and a good work-life balance.
