I am a third-year ECE student currently pursuing a Engineering. I was shortlisted for an interview for the position of Oracle's Server Technology Intern after completing the online assessment, which consisted of coding questions, aptitude questions, and some English grammar questions.
There were a total of three rounds, two of them technical and the last was an HR round. The first round was a technical round. The interviewer reviewed my resume and asked some questions about assembly language, as I mentioned it in my resume. He then asked about my projects, which were mostly related to ECE. He asked why I applied for a CS job, given that all of my projects were ECE related. He then asked me to design an operating system to prioritize and execute the most important tasks first out of 100 given commands to the computer. I was not able to answer the question as I was not familiar with operating systems. Next, he asked me a stocks question which was based on the concept of dynamic programming. I gave him the intuition, but he was not satisfied with my approach. My interview ended there, and I was not selected for further rounds.
My advice to first and second-year students, especially from non-CS branches, is to have a good grip on data structures and algorithm concepts. This is essential to crack the online assessment and interview round. The faster you start, the better, as you will be competing with students from CSE. It is also important to have some projects that are different from your branch projects. In most interviews, they will ask you about your projects, especially Oracle. You can do some simple projects based on web development or in any other area you are interested in. CGPA matters to some extent, just maintain it above 8 for core branches, as many companies have eligibility criteria of 8 or above for applying for internships. I hope my experience helps you, and I wish best of luck to all my fellow students and aspirants for their future endeavors.
