I applied for an SDE internship position at Visa in November . I had 3+ years of software development experience, primarily backend, from a startup and was currently pursuing a CS masters degree.
I received a Hackerrank based online assessment after 2-3 weeks. The first question was an easy problem that could be solved using a hash table. The second question was the "The Jungle Book" problem from Leetcode.
Two weeks later, the recruiter scheduled two 30-minute technical interviews. The first interview was with a director from the Visa Global team. He asked about my experience, the technologies I had worked with, and if I had ETL experience. He also asked me to implement the "Group Anagrams" problem from Leetcode.
The second interview was with a chief architect from the same team. He began with the "finding cycle in a Linked List" problem and then moved on to the "finding Kth node from end in a Linked List" problem. He emphasized the logic and did not require me to code. These were fairly simple problems, so we had some time left. He spent the remaining time discussing operating system concepts like processes, threads, and synchronization.
I was confident in my answers to most of the questions. However, I did not hear back from the recruiter for about three weeks, possibly due to the Christmas holiday season. I received an offer shortly after.
