I interviewed for an Applied Scientist position at Zoom in August. The interview process consisted of a phone screen followed by a virtual onsite with four rounds. The phone screen included a mix of machine learning breadth and depth questions, along with an easy coding question. The onsite rounds included a technical presentation, two rounds focusing on machine learning, one round focused on behavioral questions, and one round focused on system design. The system design round was particularly challenging, as the interviewer asked me to design a system for indexing text at scale. I was ultimately rejected due to my lack of experience in production environments and system design. The overall interview experience was positive, but the system design round was a significant challenge. I learned a lot from this experience and will continue to work on my system design skills.
